uEmcee: I apologize but I'm about to ask you a question
that I'm sure you have been asked more then enough
times, I hope you don't mind breaking it down for
the uEmcee.com people. Cite 3. How did you come up
with that name?
Cite 3: I don't mind breaking
it down at all, it was basically an alternate tag
I used to have when I would write (graffiti)… The
rule was simple, whatever you wrote on walls, trains,
bridges, etc… don't carry on you… so I used to write
"TASK", but I couldn't walk around school or that
would just be giving myself away… so Cite 3 would
be scribbled in all my black books, in drawings… I
originally chose it because of "Third Eye Vision"…
years before Heiroglyphics came out… I heard it from
somewhere though.. I tried changing it, but its just
too much of who I am..
uEmcee: I have conversed with
you a couple of times via email, message boards, etc.
And you appear very knowledge about the industry.
How long have you been in the rap game?
Cite 3: I've been writing rhymes
ever since Dr. Dre released the chronic.. I was about
11 or so… It wasn't about rapping, it was just being
cool… all my friends would make up their own rhymes…
I didn't start getting SERIOUS about it until end
of 9th grade back in 96… in 99 I sent my first demo
tape to someone at XXL via friend, heard an okay (not
great ) response, but that gave me belief that I cold
really do this, so I started linking with other people
and getting in ciphers and really sitting down and
thinking out a game plan…(although slow process, still
in motion to this day) I've dealt with my share of
B.S. cats that promise you the world, but can't get
you a dollar, I've seen cats come up, I've seen cats
give up… I've dealt with a few friends in the industry
dying… I'm rambling let me stop… my first show was
in 98 I did a talent show with Soul Department, my
first solo was at a coffee house poetry slam in 98
uEmcee: I find it interesting
as hell to hear about how people come up with songs.
What's your process, how do you start to put together
a song?
Cite 3: There's no formula for
me. Most of the time, I'm just listening to a beat,
and I think about what goes on in that beat, what
kind of feeling it gives me, almost as if it was a
soundtrack to a movie, what kind of movie would it
be, and what would I say about it… that gives me the
concept… from there I write the story, or just express
the emotions in rhyme format..
Other times, songs can come
from freestyles, or things that happened that day
that I need to get off my chest, (like trouble at
work, or people at shows acting a fool), or me just
having the urge to scribe my thoughts on paper.
uEmcee: I'm sure you have done
many shows. What was your most memorable show, and
why?
Cite 3: My most memorable show
was Art-O-Matic 2004 behind Union Station in Washington,
DC… I remember it the most because I felt like I did
a great job with my performance, my whole crew represented,
I got to share the stage with DC legends Storm the
Unpredictable and Priest da Nomad, and some of the
best DC has to offer, Shambala, Flex Mathews, Mic
the Finite, Echoboomers, Krayola, SitCalm, Of Unknown
Origin, and of course my fam Omegatropolis, Prowess
the Testament, and my boy from Brooklyn who came all
the way down to DC the Natur-L and his crew Soul Dept…
uEmcee: What was your most f-
up memory about a show? Have you ever been booed off
the stage?
Cite 3: My least memorable performance
was in 2003 at Guerilla Grammar battle no. 2, I was
drunk off my behind parts. Everyone who was anyone
was basically there. I made a complete fool of myself…
I tried hard to spit some kind of fire… but I was
too dizzy… boy what a nightmare… I've never been BOOED
OFF, but I got plenty of BOOOOOO's.. hahaha.. so I
just went off on the crowd and started BATTLING THEM…that's
when I got focused with my freestyle.. lol.. I remember
telling some guys to shut up and some woman up front
some really misogynistic things.. I wish I had the
video also, in Richmond, VA at the Ingredience Hip
Hop festival, I arrived like two seconds before I
was scheduled to go on stage so I was SOOO out of
breath by running from my car… then of all things..
hahhaha.. I forgot the second verse to one of my songs..
I had to freestyle it, and from what I remember it
was pretty Terrible.
uEmcee: I got one for you. Close
your eyes and imagine that you're on tour. On tour
with four other rappers. And if you had to pick these
four other rappers who would it be? And why did you
choose these people?
Cite 3: Aww man, .. tough one..
First would definitely be Prowess the Testament, She's
been there for me all the way now, we support each
other to the fullest..
next I would say Mr. Lif .. he has a really good live
show and he seems like a really cool cat on the road
(based on the dvd's I've seen)…, Pharoahe Monch -
one of the most respected lyricists to me…ever since
I peeped him with Prince Po, definitely a legend in
my book, plus when I saw him live at DMC 2003 in DC
I went crazy… and Mad Skillz…just to even out the
tour… a different aspect to add some variety.. he's
listener friendly to mainstream crowd without being
wack…
uEmcee: Tell us what's next
for Cite 3, any shows or events we can catch you at?
Cite 3: I'm a promoter for various
things, so you can see me at many places in DC, but
as far as ME performing, we'll be having a Single
Release party when we drop vinyl this summer, and
I'll be spitting there, June 17th, and June 19th Prowess
the Testament will be performing at Bar Nun (I think)
on U Street in DC, I'm sure I'll be dropping a verse
or two with her… This weekend I'm performing at a
party in Maryland at the end of Indian Head Hwy… on
the Air Force Base, I have no idea about the crowd
there, so I'm kinda nervous about that… I'm getting
paid $200, so its not so bad. Other than that, there
are plenty of possible things, I talked with a promoter
who said he'll put me on the back up list if the scheduled
opener's can't make it… for artists such as Wu-Tang,
CRayzWalz, J-Zone… more.. I don't want to wish harm
on nobody, but I'd like to open up for Wu Tang, that
would be F*cking amazing. also I'm bound to drop by
Tru Skool sometime in DC at Capital City Records every
Friday… I just don't know when yet…
uEmcee: If someone wanted to get at you, how could
they reach out?
Cite 3: Drop me an Email at Cite3@omegatropolis.com,
or sign the guestbook at the website. www.omegatropolis.com...
OR send me a note on my uEmcee.com artist page. SORRY FOR ALL THE RAMBLING FOLKS.
